Naming information
Name origin: Roman goddess of the hearth fire.
Mythology: Vesta was held in high regard in Roman culture, where she was worshipped with a perpetual fire guarded by the Vestal Virgins, who each served for 30 years. The Virgins were afforded a position of honour in society as a consequence of their service. As goddess of the hearth fire, Vesta was the patron deity of bakers, hence her connection with the ass, usually used for turning the millstone. Vesta was also worshipped in every household. Her festival, the Vestalia, took place between 7th and 15th June.
