Aquarius New Moon 2025: Minor Planet Report

First thing: a brief note

Dear friends: Apologies that this month's report does not contain specific sign readings. In part this is due to some developments I've been working on, including the Focus On project, which I've finally been able to integrate with this report.

Instead of the usual list of references below, each minor planet featured here has its own Focus On post; you can access these by clicking the links on the individual names. Full lists of interpretations, data I've collected and any references can be found on those posts.

Focus On is the result of an information gathering project that has existed for several years, and is intended to host a thorough collation of astronomical and astrological data on various minor planets. Building it is rapidly becoming my life's work: an endeavour I am grateful and proud to undertake.

I do also intend to continue working on these reports, and to recommence sign-specific entries on the next one. (There might not be a Focus On link for these, but I will include the usual information.)

A Jovial Full Moon

Firstly, I apologise for the brevity of this post and the absence of horoscopes. I hope the below will at least be of some utility.

Today's Full Moon has, as my good friend Amanda pointed out, proved something of a callback to 2023. It took place at 5+ degrees Leo and Aquarius, squaring Jupiter (currently at 6+ degrees Taurus) along with the 5+ Taurus degree, in which Mercury and Jupiter both stationed direct last year. The Full Moon of late October 2023 also occurred at 5+ Taurus-Scorpio. All this has invested that one small part of the zodiac with a lot of significance.

Pluto in Aquarius News: Artemis II Crew Announced

NASA has announced the four crew members who will be involved in the Artemis II manned mission to the Moon. I came across this news today and thought it very apropos: the exercise of our power (Pluto) in the realms of space exploration and technology (Aquarius). Interestingly, November 2024, the date projected for the mission launch, is the month in which Pluto leaves Capricorn for the last time.

The mission will be the first test of NASA's new Orion spacecraft, and will involve a flyby approximately 10,000 kilometres above the Moon's far side, before returning to Earth. The crew are not intending to land.

A Celestial Reveille

Something pretty special is due to happen in the skies this week.

First, a bit of background. The Earth year, depending on which part of the planet you inhabit, has certain seasons at certain points. In much of the Northern hemisphere, the winter solstice (the shortest day of the year) is around 21st or 22nd December. The summer solstice is halfway round the year from that, usually on 21st or 22nd June. The spring and autumn equinoxes take place between those times, in March and September respectively. At corresponding latitudes in the Southern hemisphere, these times are reversed: summer in December, winter in June, and so on.

The exact date and time is not always the same, because the seasons are aligned not with the Gregorian calendar but with certain points in the Earth's orbit, which cause the Sun's latitude from our point of view to appear as far North or South as it can be, or (in the case of the equinoxes) right on the equator.

Astrologically, the solstices and equinoxes, from December onwards, correspond with the Sun's apparent entry into the (tropical) signs of Capricorn, Aries, Cancer and Libra respectively. These four are known as the cardinal signs, those that commence their seasons - associated with pioneering, leading and pushing forward.

Leap of Faith

We live in precarious times. The Doomsday Clock has just been moved on again, and now stands at 90 seconds to midnight, the closest it has ever been since its creation. The inertia of the powerful in the face of global warming and a struggle for democracy is deeply troubling. We stand on the brink of changes we cannot control, and we have no idea whether we shall eventually fly or fall.

Amid this crisis come two major planetary shifts in 2023. The first is Pluto's initial foray into Aquarius from Capricorn, taking place near the Aries equinox on 23rd March. Pluto spends a few months here before retrograding back into Capricorn on 11th June; then, a few days later as the Northern solstice approaches, an object named Sedna enters Gemini.

You might or might not have heard of Sedna, named after an Inuit water goddess and discovered in 2003. It has an orbital period of approximately 11,400 years, and is currently very near perihelion - as close as it gets to the Sun - meaning that from our perspective it's travelling relatively fast. In any case, it leaves Taurus (where it first arrived in 1966) and enters Gemini on 15th June. After a brief trip back, it'll finally settle in Gemini next year, and stay there for the next four decades, according to current calculations.
